The SECO 17016378 is a cobalt square end mill designed for material removal in ferrous and high-temperature alloy machining applications. Built from M42 cobalt high-speed steel and coated with titanium carbonitride (TiCN), this tool delivers wear resistance and heat tolerance in demanding cutting conditions. It features a 0.75 inch mill diameter, a 1.3125 inch length of cut, and a 0.5 inch shank diameter, with an overall length of 3.3125 inches. The 30-degree spiral flute geometry and right-hand cut with right-hand flute configuration are standard for the SP205 series. This is a single-end, centercutting tool, meaning it can plunge directly into workpiece material. Machinists and CNC operators working in job shops, tool rooms, and production environments are the primary users.
The 17016378 is suited for milling steel, stainless steel, cast iron, and high-temperature alloys, covering ISO material groups P, M, K, and S. Its short-length classification and rigid 0.5 inch shank make it appropriate for general-purpose side milling, slotting, and profiling operations on vertical and horizontal machining centers. The TiCN coating extends tool life compared to uncoated cobalt tooling when running at moderate to elevated cutting speeds. No coolant-through capability is present, so flood or mist coolant applied externally is standard practice for heat management in these materials.

This end mill is installed by a machinist or CNC operator into a compatible end mill holder, collet chuck, or shrink-fit toolholder accepting a 0.5 inch shank. Confirm runout does not exceed 0.001 inches TIR after tool seating, as specified for this series. Power down the machine spindle and engage the e-stop before changing tooling. Do not use this tool without confirming workpiece material compatibility — avoid hardened steels or non-ferrous materials outside the rated groups without verifying tool suitability.
