The SECO 17016376 is a single-end cobalt square end mill designed for material removal in demanding machining applications. Built from M42 cobalt high-speed steel and finished with a TiCN (Titanium Carbonitride) coating, it delivers improved hardness and wear resistance over standard HSS tooling. The cutting geometry features 2 spiral flutes with a 30-degree helix angle, right-hand cut, and right-hand flute direction. The centercutting design allows plunge entry into the workpiece. With a 9/16-inch diameter, 1-1/8-inch length of cut, and 1/2-inch shank, this is a short-series mill suited for general-purpose milling where rigidity and precision matter. Machinists and tool-and-die shops are the primary users.
This end mill is rated for use on steel, stainless steel, cast iron, and high-temperature alloys, covering ISO material codes P, M, K, and S. It is well suited for slot milling, peripheral milling, and light plunge operations in CNC machining centers and manual mills. The short flute length and rigid shank geometry reduce deflection in harder workpiece materials. The TiCN coating provides a low-friction surface that extends tool life in abrasive cutting conditions. Designed as a Series SP205 short-series cobalt square end mill for machining steel, stainless steel, cast iron, and high-temperature alloys with a 1/2-inch straight shank. Fits any mill spindle or toolholder accepting a 1/2-inch shank diameter.
Installation is performed by machinists using a standard collet chuck or end mill holder rated for 1/2-inch shank tooling. Ensure the spindle and toolholder are clean and free of chips before seating the shank. Confirm runout does not exceed the 0.0010-inch TIR maximum before beginning a cut. Always engage machine guarding and follow shop safety procedures when changing or running cutting tools.
