The SECO 17016370 is a 2-flute cobalt square end mill designed for material removal in demanding metalworking applications. Built from M42 cobalt high-speed steel and finished with a TiCN (Titanium Carbonitride) coating, this tool delivers increased wear resistance and heat tolerance compared to standard HSS tooling. The 5/16 inch cutting diameter, 9/16 inch length of cut, and 30-degree helix angle make it well suited for slotting, profiling, and peripheral milling operations. It is centercutting, allowing direct plunge entry into workpieces. The right-hand cut and right-hand spiral flute geometry promotes efficient chip evacuation and reduces tool deflection during cuts.
This end mill belongs to the SP205 short series and is intended for milling steel, stainless steel, cast iron, and high-temperature alloys — corresponding to ISO material groups P, M, K, and S. The 3/8 inch shank diameter fits standard collet chucks and end mill holders commonly found on vertical machining centers, knee mills, and CNC milling machines. The short overall length of 2-5/16 inches provides rigidity in setups where reach requirements are minimal. Installation is performed by a machinist or CNC operator. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and the tool holder is clean and free of debris before seating the shank. Torque the collet nut to the tool holder specification provided by the holder manufacturer. Verify runout does not exceed the specified TIR maximum of 0.0010 inches before beginning a cut.
