The SECO 17016369 is a cobalt square end mill designed for high-performance milling in ferrous and heat-resistant materials. Built from M42 cobalt high-speed steel and coated with titanium carbonitride (TiCN), it delivers extended tool life in applications where standard HSS tools wear prematurely. The cutter measures 9/32 inch (0.2812 inch) in diameter with a 9/16 inch length of cut, a 3/8 inch shank, and a 2-5/16 inch overall length. The two-flute, right-hand spiral geometry with a 30-degree helix angle promotes chip evacuation and reduces cutting forces. It is center-cutting, allowing plunge entry without a pre-drilled pilot hole. This tool belongs to the SP205 series short-length end mill line.
This end mill is suited for slotting, profiling, and plunge milling in steel, stainless steel, cast iron, and high-temperature alloys. Its short-length classification provides rigidity in tight-tolerance applications and shallow-to-moderate depth-of-cut work. The TiCN coating improves surface hardness and reduces friction against abrasive workpiece materials. Machine shops, tool-and-die operations, and maintenance machinists running manual or CNC milling equipment will find this cutter appropriate for general steel machining and difficult-to-machine alloy work where M42 cobalt outperforms standard M2 HSS.
Designed as a standard fractional-inch shank end mill compatible with 3/8 inch collets, end mill holders, and milling chucks on CNC machining centers and manual knee mills. Primary workpiece material codes P, M, K, and S cover steel, stainless steel, cast iron, and high-temperature alloys respectively.
Installation and tool changes must be performed with the spindle fully stopped and the machine locked out per applicable shop safety procedures. Seat the 3/8 inch shank fully into the toolholder and torque the retention mechanism to the holder manufacturer's specification. Verify runout against the stated TIR maximum of 0.0010 inch before beginning a cut. Do not exceed the rated length of cut when programming depth-of-cut passes.
