The SECO 17016216 is a single-end roughing end mill designed for aggressive material removal in milling operations. Built from M42 cobalt high-speed steel and coated with TiCN (Titanium Carbonitride), it delivers improved wear resistance and heat tolerance compared to standard HSS tooling. The 1.25-inch mill diameter pairs with six spiral flutes and a 30-degree maximum helix angle to produce efficient chip evacuation and reduced chatter during heavy cuts. With a 3-inch length of cut and 5.5-inch overall length, this tool is suited for roughing passes where stock removal rate matters more than surface finish. Right-hand cutting and right-hand flute direction are standard. This tool is installed and run by machinists and CNC operators working in job shops, tool rooms, and production environments.
This roughing end mill is used in vertical and horizontal milling machines as well as CNC machining centers handling ferrous metals and tough alloys. The M42 cobalt substrate makes it a practical choice when machining stainless steel, alloy steel, and other work-hardening materials that would prematurely dull standard M2 HSS tools. The TiCN coating extends tool life in dry or minimal-lubrication conditions. The shank diameter matches the mill diameter at 1.25 inches, making it compatible with standard R8, CAT, BT, and direct-mount toolholders of that bore size. It is not center-cutting and is not intended for plunge entry.

Installation is performed by a machinist or CNC operator. Always secure the shank fully within the toolholder to the minimum insertion depth specified by the holder manufacturer. Confirm spindle speed and feed rate are appropriate for the workpiece material before engaging the cut. Because this tool is not center-cutting, do not use it for direct plunge milling — always enter from the workpiece edge or a pre-machined pocket.
