The SECO 17016202 is a single-end roughing end mill designed for aggressive material removal in milling operations. Built from M42 cobalt high-speed steel and coated with TiCN for heat and wear resistance, it handles tough ferrous and non-ferrous materials where standard HSS tools fall short. The stub-length geometry keeps deflection low during heavy cuts. With a 3/4-inch cutting diameter, 3/4-inch length of cut, and 4 spiral flutes in a right-hand cutting and flute direction, this tool is suited for roughing passes on mills and machining centers. It is a non-centercutting design and does not feature coolant-through capability.
This end mill is used in production and job-shop environments where rapid stock removal is the priority before a finishing pass. The REM445 series stub-length profile makes it a practical choice for setups with limited Z-axis clearance or where tool rigidity is critical. Machinists and CNC operators working with steel alloys, stainless, and similar materials will find the TiCN coating extends tool life compared to uncoated cobalt. It is appropriate for both manual knee mills and CNC machining centers running conventional or climb-milling strategies.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or direct-use roughing end mill for standard 3/4-inch straight-shank tool holders used in vertical and horizontal milling applications.
Install in a standard ER or straight-shank collet chuck rated for 3/4-inch shanks, ensuring the holder and spindle are clean and free of chips before seating the tool. Power down and lock out the machine before changing tooling per OSHA lockout/tagout procedures. Verify runout with a dial indicator after clamping, as excessive runout accelerates wear on cobalt tooling. Because this end mill is non-centercutting, do not plunge directly into solid material — use a ramp entry or pre-drilled hole.
