The SECO 17016199 is a single-end roughing end mill designed for aggressive material removal in milling applications. Built from M42 cobalt high-speed steel and coated with TiCN for added hardness and wear resistance, this tool handles demanding cuts in ferrous and non-ferrous materials. The 4-flute, right-hand spiral configuration with a 30-degree maximum helix angle promotes efficient chip evacuation and reduces cutting forces. With a 5/8 inch diameter and a 2.5 inch length of cut, it suits deep-pocket and side-milling work where extended reach and chip-breaking geometry are required. This tool is installed and operated by machinists, toolroom technicians, and metalworking professionals.
This end mill fits standard CNC machining centers, manual knee mills, and vertical milling machines that accept a 5/8 inch straight shank. The long-series overall length of 4-5/8 inches allows access to deeper features without requiring a specialty holder. It is suited to roughing passes in steel, stainless, and similar alloys where a TiCN-coated cobalt tool outperforms standard HSS in terms of tool life and feed rate capability. It is not center-cutting and should not be used for plunge entry. Applications include slot roughing, peripheral milling, and step-down passes prior to a finishing operation.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or direct-use roughing end mill for milling machines and machining centers accepting a 5/8 inch straight shank, consistent with SECO REM445 series tooling.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or toolroom technician. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and locked out before changing tooling. Seat the shank fully in a clean, undamaged collet or end mill holder and torque the retention mechanism per the holder specification. This tool is not center-cutting and must be entered into the workpiece from the side or through a pre-drilled hole — do not plunge directly into solid material.
