The SECO 17016196 is a single-end roughing end mill designed for aggressive material removal in metalworking and machining applications. Built from M42 cobalt high-speed steel and finished with a TiCN coating, it delivers extended tool life under high-heat cutting conditions. The 1/2-inch diameter, 4-flute geometry combined with a 30-degree maximum helix angle and spiral flute design promotes efficient chip evacuation and stable cutting performance. With a 2-inch length of cut and 4-inch overall length, this is a long-series tool suited for deeper reaches in roughing operations. It is installed and operated by machinists and CNC programmers in job shop and production environments.
This roughing end mill is used in milling operations where rapid stock removal is the priority before finish passes. The right-hand cutting and right-hand flute direction make it compatible with standard CNC machining centers and manual knee mills. The long flute series suits applications requiring reach into deeper pockets or along taller workpiece walls. Cobalt construction handles harder ferrous materials, stainless steel, and high-temperature alloys better than standard HSS tooling. This tool is not center-cutting and should not be plunged axially into solid material.
Fits standard 1/2-inch tool holders, collet chucks, and end mill adapters used in CNC machining centers and manual milling machines. Part of the SECO REM445 series.
Installation is performed by a machinist or tooling technician. Secure the 1/2-inch shank in a properly sized collet or end mill holder and torque to the tool holder manufacturer specification. Confirm spindle direction is set to right-hand rotation before engaging the cut. Do not use this tool for axial plunge cuts — it is not center-cutting. Always wear appropriate PPE and ensure the machine guard is in place before operation.
