The SECO 17016190 is a single-end cobalt roughing end mill designed for aggressive material removal in milling applications. Built from M42 cobalt high-speed steel and finished with a TiCN coating, this tool handles tough ferrous and non-ferrous materials with a 5/16-inch (0.3125-inch) mill diameter and a 3/4-inch length of cut. The right-hand spiral flute geometry and 30-degree maximum helix angle support efficient chip evacuation during roughing passes. The short-length series profile keeps deflection low in confined setups. Machinists and tool-and-die professionals working on CNC mills and manual knee mills will find this end mill well-suited to hogging cuts in steel and similar alloys.
This roughing end mill is intended for use in job shop, production machining, and maintenance machining environments where rapid stock removal is the priority. The 3/8-inch shank diameter fits standard R8, ER, and side-lock tool holders commonly found on vertical machining centers and manual mills. The 4-flute configuration balances chip load capacity with tool rigidity on shorter cuts. The TiCN coating provides added surface hardness and lubricity, extending tool life in dry or mist-cooled operations. This tool does not support coolant-through delivery and is not center-cutting, so it should not be used for plunge entry.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement and standard roughing end mill for use in vertical machining centers and manual mills accepting a 3/8-inch shank with R8, ER collet, or side-lock holder configurations.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist following standard toolholding procedures. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and the tool holder is clean and undamaged before seating the shank. Confirm shank engagement depth meets the tool holder manufacturer's minimum grip length. Because this tool is not center-cutting, avoid direct plunge entry — use a ramping or pre-drilled entry strategy instead.
