The SECO 17016188 is a single-end roughing end mill designed for aggressive material removal in metalworking applications. Built from M42 cobalt high-speed steel and finished with a TiCN coating, it handles tough ferrous and non-ferrous materials where standard HSS tooling falls short. The 1/4 inch cutting diameter pairs with a 3/8 inch shank, a 5/8 inch length of cut, and a 2-7/16 inch overall length. Four spiral flutes cut in the right-hand direction with a 30-degree maximum helix angle, promoting efficient chip evacuation during heavy roughing passes. This tool is part of the REM445 series and is suited for manual and CNC machining centers used by machinists and tool-and-die professionals.
This end mill is applied in roughing operations on milling machines and CNC machining centers where stock needs to be removed quickly before finishing passes. It is not center-cutting, so it requires a pre-drilled entry point or a ramping move when plunging. The TiCN coating extends tool life in abrasive and hardened materials. Typical applications include slotting, profiling, and peripheral milling in ferrous metals, stainless steels, and high-temperature alloys where M42 cobalt provides added hot hardness over standard M2 tooling.
Designed as an OEM-style roughing end mill for use in standard collet chucks, end mill holders, and side-lock holders accepting a 3/8 inch shank diameter on manual knee mills and CNC vertical machining centers.
Installation is performed by a machinist or tooling technician. Power down and lock out the spindle before changing tooling. Seat the 3/8 inch shank fully and evenly in the holder before tightening to manufacturer torque specifications for the holder type in use. This end mill is not center-cutting — do not use it for direct plunge drilling without a pre-drilled entry point or a programmed ramp entry.
