The SECO 17015345 is a single-end roughing end mill designed for aggressive material removal in milling operations. Built from M42 cobalt high-speed steel and finished with a TiCN coating, this tool handles tough ferrous and non-ferrous materials while maintaining edge integrity under heat and wear. The 1/2 inch diameter cutter features four flutes with a right-hand spiral and right-hand cutting direction. With a 30-degree maximum helix angle and a short-length configuration, it delivers controlled chip evacuation during roughing passes. Licensed machinists and toolroom professionals specify cobalt end mills when carbide is cost-prohibitive or when working with interrupted cuts and variable stock conditions.
This end mill suits roughing applications in job shops, production milling, and toolroom environments. It is appropriate for use in CNC machining centers and manual knee mills where stock removal rate takes priority over surface finish. The 1 inch length of cut and 3 inch overall length position it for short-reach roughing slots and peripheral milling passes. The TiCN coating adds surface hardness and lubricity, extending tool life in moderate-speed cuts on steel, stainless, and alloy materials.
Designed as a roughing end mill for use in standard 1/2 inch collets, end mill holders, and Weldon-style shanks on CNC machining centers and manual milling machines. Shank diameter matches mill diameter at 1/2 inch for direct holder fitment.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or toolroom technician. Ensure the spindle is fully stopped and locked before inserting or removing the end mill from its holder. Confirm holder runout is within tolerance before engaging the cut, as excessive runout accelerates edge wear on cobalt tooling. Follow the machine manufacturer's recommended speeds and feeds for cobalt end mills and the specific workpiece material.
