The SECO 17015290 is a single-end roughing end mill designed for aggressive material removal in milling operations. Built from M42 cobalt high-speed steel and coated with TiCN, it handles the heat and wear demands of roughing passes on ferrous and non-ferrous metals. The 3/4-inch diameter cutter features 4 flutes with a right-hand spiral and right-hand cutting direction, a 30-degree maximum helix angle, and a short-length configuration with 1.25 inches of length of cut. It is center-cutting, allowing plunge entry, and carries a mill diameter tolerance of +0.003 to -0.000 inches for controlled dimensional consistency.
This end mill is suited for shop machinists and toolroom professionals performing roughing operations on CNC machining centers and manual knee mills. The short flute length and cobalt construction make it appropriate for interrupted cuts and applications where tool deflection must be minimized. The TiCN coating extends tool life compared to uncoated cobalt tools, particularly in moderate-to-hard steel applications. No coolant-through capability is present, so flood or mist cooling applied externally at the cutting zone is the standard approach for heat management during roughing passes.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or direct-selection roughing end mill for standard 3/4-inch tool holders and collet systems used in CNC machining centers and manual milling machines.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or toolroom personnel. Power down the spindle and confirm the machine is in a safe, locked-out state before changing tooling. Seat the 3/4-inch shank fully in a clean, undamaged collet or end mill holder and torque the retention mechanism to the holder manufacturer specification. Inspect the shank and collet bore for chips or debris before seating, as contamination affects runout and tool life.
