The SECO 17015179 is a single-end roughing end mill designed for aggressive material removal in metalworking and machining applications. Built from M42 cobalt high-speed steel and coated with TiCN for added wear resistance, this tool handles interrupted cuts and tough ferrous materials where standard HSS end mills fall short. It features a 0.5 inch mill diameter, a 3-inch length of cut, and a 4-flute spiral geometry with a 30-degree maximum helix angle. The right-hand cutting direction and right-hand flute orientation are standard for conventional milling setups. Machinists and tool-and-die professionals are the primary users of this type of end mill.
This roughing end mill fits standard CNC machining centers, knee mills, and manual milling machines using a 0.5 inch straight shank. The regular length designation and 5-inch overall length make it suitable for general-purpose roughing passes on steel, stainless, and other tough alloys. It is not center-cutting, so it is not intended for plunge operations. The REM710 series designation indicates it is part of SECO's established roughing end mill line. No coolant-through capability is present, so flood or mist coolant delivery from the spindle or nozzle is the appropriate cooling method.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or direct-use roughing end mill for machines accepting a 0.5 inch straight shank, consistent with standard ER collet chucks, side-lock holders, and shrink-fit toolholders in that bore size.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or CNC setup technicians. Power down and lock out the spindle before inserting or removing any end mill. Ensure the shank is fully seated in the toolholder to the recommended engagement depth and that runout is within acceptable limits before beginning a cut. Do not use this tool for plunge milling, as it is not center-cutting.
