The SECO 17015178 is a single-end roughing end mill designed for aggressive material removal in milling operations. Built from M42 cobalt high-speed steel and finished with a TiCN coating, this tool delivers durability and heat resistance in demanding cutting environments. It features a 1/2 inch diameter with a 2.5 inch length of cut and a 4.5 inch overall length, making it suited for regular-length applications. The 4-flute, right-hand spiral configuration with a 30-degree maximum helix angle promotes efficient chip evacuation and stable cutting performance. Machinists and tool-and-die professionals select this end mill for roughing passes where stock removal rate matters most.
This end mill is intended for use in vertical and horizontal milling machines, CNC machining centers, and manual knee mills. It performs well in ferrous metals and other materials where M42 cobalt tooling is the appropriate choice over standard HSS. The 1/2 inch shank diameter fits standard ER and R8 collet systems as well as side-lock tool holders. It is not center-cutting, so it is not suited for direct plunge entry. This tool is appropriate for roughing passes prior to a finishing end mill operation, particularly in production and job-shop environments.
Designed as an OEM-style roughing end mill for use in standard 1/2 inch collet or tool-holder systems on CNC and manual milling equipment. Part of the SECO REM710 series.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist following standard toolroom practices. Power down and lock out the spindle drive before seating or removing the end mill from its holder. Verify collet runout and shank seating depth before first use, as excessive runout accelerates tool wear and reduces surface finish quality. Do not use this tool for direct plunge entry — use a helical or ramped interpolation path when cutting into a solid surface.
