The SECO 17015177 is a single-end roughing end mill designed for aggressive material removal in milling operations. Built from M42 cobalt high-speed steel with a TiCN coating, it delivers elevated heat and wear resistance compared to standard HSS tooling. The 1/2-inch diameter cutter features 4 right-hand spiral flutes with a 30-degree maximum helix angle, producing a corrugated cutting edge profile that breaks chips into smaller segments and reduces cutting forces. With a 1.625-inch length of cut and 3.625-inch overall length, this tool suits general roughing passes on a wide range of ferrous and non-ferrous materials. Machinists and toolroom technicians rely on this geometry for hogging stock quickly before finishing passes.
The 17015177 is suited for milling centers, knee mills, and CNC machining centers performing roughing operations in shop and production environments. The 1/2-inch shank diameter fits standard R8, ER, and similar collet systems as well as end mill holders of that bore size. Right-hand cutting direction is standard for conventional and climb milling setups. This tool does not feature coolant-through capability, so flood or mist coolant applied externally at the cutting zone is the recommended cooling method during heavy-stock-removal passes.
Designed as a direct-fit roughing end mill for any machine spindle or toolholder accepting a 1/2-inch shank, including standard collet chucks, end mill holders, and Weldon-flat holders of the same bore size.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or toolroom technicians. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and locked out before seating or removing the tool from its holder. Clean the shank and bore contact surfaces before tightening to the toolholder manufacturer's specified clamping procedure. This end mill is not center-cutting, so it must not be plunged axially into solid material without a pre-drilled entry point or a ramping or helical entry path.
