The SECO 17014829 is a single-end cobalt roughing end mill designed for aggressive material removal in milling operations. Built from M42 cobalt high-speed steel and coated with TiAlN for heat and wear resistance, this tool handles tough ferrous and non-ferrous materials at elevated cutting temperatures. It features a 1/2 inch mill diameter, 4 spiral flutes, a 3 inch length of cut, and a 5 inch overall length. The right-hand cut and right-hand flute direction are standard for conventional CNC and manual milling setups. It is used by machinists and tool and die professionals in job shops, maintenance facilities, and production environments.
This end mill is suited for roughing passes on steel, stainless steel, and similar materials where high chip loads and fast stock removal are the priority. The TiAlN coating extends tool life in dry or semi-dry cutting conditions where heat buildup is a concern. The regular-length geometry fits standard milling chucks and collet holders with a 1/2 inch bore. It does not include coolant-through capability, so it is best applied in open-cut or air-blast setups. The REM445 series designation identifies it within SECO's cobalt roughing end mill line.
Designed as an OEM-style roughing end mill replacement for use in standard 1/2 inch collet chucks, end mill holders, and milling machine spindles accepting a 1/2 inch shank diameter.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists following standard toolholding procedures. Power down and lock out the spindle before seating or removing the tool. Seat the shank fully in the collet or holder to the recommended engagement depth and torque the retention fastener per the toolholder manufacturer specification. Verify runout with a dial indicator before taking the first cut, as excessive runout accelerates tool wear and reduces surface finish quality.
