The SECO 17014825 is a single-end roughing end mill designed for aggressive material removal in milling applications. Built from M42 cobalt high-speed steel with a TiAlN coating, it delivers heat resistance and wear performance suited to ferrous metals, stainless steels, and similar difficult-to-machine materials. The cutter measures 0.5 inches in diameter with a 1.25-inch length of cut and a 3.25-inch overall length. Four right-hand spiral flutes with a 30-degree maximum helix angle and a chipbreaker geometry drive chip evacuation during roughing passes. Machinists and tool-and-die professionals specify this geometry for roughing operations before finishing passes.
This end mill is used in vertical and horizontal milling machines, CNC machining centers, and manual knee mills where a 1/2-inch shank is the standard holder size. It is appropriate for roughing slots, pockets, and profiles in production and job-shop environments. The single-end configuration and cobalt substrate make it a practical choice when machining work-hardening alloys or interrupted cuts where carbide is not required. Coolant-through is not supported, so flood or mist coolant applied externally at the cut zone is the standard approach.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or direct-use roughing end mill for milling machines and CNC machining centers accepting a 1/2-inch shank diameter. Part of the SECO REM445 series.
Installation is performed by a machinist or toolroom technician. Ensure the machine spindle is fully powered down and locked out before loading or removing any end mill. Seat the shank to the full depth recommended by the toolholder manufacturer and torque set-screws or collet nuts per the toolholder specification. Verify runout with a dial indicator before beginning a cut, as excessive runout accelerates flute wear on roughing geometries.
