The SECO 17014824 is a single-end cobalt roughing end mill designed for aggressive material removal in ferrous and non-ferrous metals. Built from M42 high-cobalt steel and coated with TiAlN, it handles elevated cutting temperatures and maintains edge integrity during heavy roughing passes. The 4-flute spiral configuration with a 30-degree maximum helix angle and right-hand cut delivers efficient chip evacuation and stable cutting action. With a 1/2 inch mill diameter, 1 inch length of cut, and 3 inch overall length, this is a short-series tool suited for rigid setups where tool deflection must be minimized. Licensed machinists and CNC operators use it in production and job shop environments.
This roughing end mill is intended for use in vertical machining centers, manual knee mills, and CNC milling machines running materials such as alloy steels, tool steels, stainless, and other tough ferrous metals where a TiAlN coating provides thermal resistance benefits. The short-series length improves rigidity for slotting, profiling, and pocketing operations where chip load and lateral forces are high. It is not center-cutting, so it is not suited for direct plunge entry without a pre-drilled starting hole or ramping toolpath.
Designed as an OEM-style roughing end mill for use in standard 1/2 inch end mill holders, ER collet chucks, and milling machine spindles accepting 1/2 inch shank tooling. Part of the SECO REM445 series.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC setup technician. Power down and lock out the spindle drive before changing tooling. Seat the shank fully into the holder to the recommended engagement depth and torque the retention screw or collet nut per the holder manufacturer specifications. Verify runout with a dial indicator before cutting; excessive runout accelerates edge wear and reduces surface finish quality.
