The SECO 17014821 is a single-end roughing end mill designed for aggressive material removal in milling applications. Built from M42 cobalt high-speed steel and finished with a TiAlN coating, it delivers heat resistance and edge retention under demanding cutting conditions. The tool measures 3/8 inch in diameter with a 3/4 inch length of cut and a 2-1/2 inch overall length. Four right-hand spiral flutes and a 30-degree maximum helix angle work together to clear chips efficiently while maintaining surface contact during roughing passes. Licensed machinists and tool-and-die professionals are the primary users of this type of end mill.
This roughing end mill is suited for use on vertical and horizontal milling machines and compatible machining centers where interrupted, high-feed roughing cuts are required. It performs well in ferrous alloys and stainless steels where cobalt tooling is preferred for its elevated red hardness. The short flute length and rigid shank design minimize deflection in setups with tight reach requirements. It is not center-cutting, so it requires a pre-drilled entry point or ramping entry when plunging into solid material.
Designed as a direct-fit roughing end mill for use with standard 3/8 inch collets, end mill holders, or shrink-fit tooling systems on manual and CNC milling machines.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or CNC setup technicians. Power down and lock out the spindle before loading or removing tooling. Ensure the shank is clean and free of chips before seating in the holder, and verify runout with a dial indicator after clamping. Do not exceed the rated depth-of-cut parameters recommended for the workpiece material and machine rigidity.
