The SECO 17014593 is a single-end cobalt roughing end mill designed for aggressive material removal in milling operations. Built from M42 cobalt high-speed steel, it delivers heat and wear resistance well suited to harder workpiece materials. The 5/8 inch diameter cutter features 3 spiral flutes with a high helix style at a 36-degree maximum helix angle, promoting efficient chip evacuation and smooth cutting action. The bright, uncoated finish keeps costs down on general-purpose applications. Centercutting geometry allows plunge entry, expanding its use in slotting and pocketing operations. Installed by machinists and toolroom professionals on conventional and CNC milling equipment.
This end mill fits standard milling applications requiring a 5/8 inch diameter tool with a 5/8 inch shank. The 1.625 inch length of cut and 3.75 inch overall length suit typical roughing passes in medium-depth pockets and slots. The right-hand cutting and right-hand flute direction are compatible with conventional spindle rotation. No coolant-through capability is present, so flood or mist coolant applied externally is the standard approach for heat management during extended cuts.
Designed as an OEM-style roughing end mill for use in standard 5/8 inch milling chucks, collets, and end mill holders on conventional and CNC vertical milling machines.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist following shop safety procedures. Ensure the spindle is fully powered down and locked out before changing tooling. Seat the 5/8 inch shank fully and evenly in the tool holder and torque the retention hardware per the holder manufacturer specification. Verify runout with a dial indicator before beginning a cut, as excessive runout accelerates edge wear on roughing geometry.
