The SECO 17014120 is a single-end cobalt roughing end mill designed for aggressive material removal in ferrous and non-ferrous machining applications. Built from M42 cobalt high-speed steel, this tool handles interrupted cuts and tough alloys where standard HSS tooling falls short. The 7/8 inch (0.8750 inch) mill diameter pairs with a 1-7/8 inch length of cut and 4-1/8 inch overall length, making it a regular-length tool suited to general-purpose roughing work. Five right-hand spiral flutes at a 30-degree maximum helix angle break chips efficiently and reduce chatter during heavy stock removal passes. The bright, uncoated finish is standard for cobalt roughing end mills used with conventional cutting fluids. This is a professional-grade tool installed and operated by machinists and toolroom technicians.
This end mill is used in vertical and horizontal milling machines, machining centers, and CNC knee mills where roughing passes precede finish milling operations. It is suited for applications in steel, stainless, cast iron, and high-temp alloys where chip load demands exceed the capacity of standard uncoated HSS end mills. The 7/8 inch shank diameter matches standard ER and R8 collet toolholders common in production and job-shop environments. It is not center-cutting, so it is not intended for plunge entry without a pre-drilled starting hole.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or direct-use roughing end mill for standard 7/8 inch collet and end mill holders used in general milling operations. No coolant-through feature; requires external flood or mist coolant delivery.
Installation and operation should be performed by qualified machinists or toolroom personnel familiar with milling machine setup and cutting tool safety. Secure the shank fully in a collet or end mill holder to the manufacturer-specified engagement depth before operation. De-energize and lock out the machine spindle before changing or inspecting tooling per standard OSHA lockout/tagout procedures. Do not use this tool for plunge cutting — it is not center-cutting and requires a pre-bored entry point for pocket milling operations.
