The SECO 17014090 is a single-end roughing end mill designed for aggressive material removal in milling operations. Built from M42 cobalt high-speed steel and finished with a TiCN coating, it delivers extended tool life under high heat and abrasive cutting conditions. The 0.5 inch mill diameter and 4-flute spiral geometry produce a corncob-style chip-breaking action that reduces cutting forces and allows higher feed rates compared to standard end mills. With a 1.25 inch length of cut and 3.25 inch overall length, this tool suits a range of roughing passes on steel, stainless, and other ferrous alloys. It is sized for direct installation into standard 1/2 inch collets or end mill holders.
This end mill is intended for use in manual mills and CNC machining centers where roughing passes on ferrous metals, tool steels, and hard alloys are routine. The right-hand cut and right-hand flute direction suit conventional vertical milling setups. The regular length designation makes it a practical choice for general-purpose roughing without excessive overhang. Machinists and tool and die professionals will find the M42 cobalt grade appropriate for interrupted cuts and tougher workpiece materials where standard HSS tooling falls short.

Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist following standard toolholding procedures. Ensure the spindle is fully powered down and at rest before changing tooling. Insert the shank to the full recommended engagement depth in the collet or end mill holder and torque the retention hardware per the toolholder manufacturer specifications. Confirm runout with a dial indicator before beginning a cut, and verify that the coolant-through setting is disabled at the machine controller, as this tool does not support through-spindle coolant.
