The SECO 17014088 is a single-end roughing end mill designed for high-stock-removal milling operations in ferrous and hard materials. Built from M42 cobalt high-speed steel with a bright, uncoated finish, it delivers durability and edge retention where standard HSS tooling wears prematurely. The cutter measures 0.500 inches in diameter with a 2.000-inch length of cut and a 4.000-inch overall length. Four right-hand spiral flutes with a 30-degree maximum helix angle break chips aggressively during roughing passes. This tool is installed and operated by machinists and tool-and-die professionals on CNC mills, manual knee mills, and bridgeports.
This end mill is suited for roughing passes in ferrous alloys, stainless steel, and other tough materials where cobalt tooling provides a thermal and wear advantage over standard M2 HSS. The 1/2-inch shank fits standard ER, Weldon, and shrink-fit toolholders common in job shop and production machining environments. It is a single-end, non-center-cutting tool, meaning it is not designed for direct plunge entry. Typical use involves side milling, slotting with a ramped entry, or profiling where maximum material removal per pass is the priority before a finishing end mill is brought in.
Designed as an OEM-style roughing end mill replacement for 1/2-inch toolholders used in standard CNC and manual milling applications requiring a single-end, 4-flute cobalt rougher.
Installation is performed by machinists. Power down and lock out the spindle drive before seating or removing the end mill from its toolholder. Verify shank runout with a dial indicator after clamping, as shank diameter tolerance on this tool is -0.0001 to -0.0005 inches and toolholder fit directly affects surface finish and tool life. This is a non-center-cutting tool — do not plunge directly into solid material; use a ramped or helical entry path.
