The SECO 17014087 is a single-end roughing end mill designed for aggressive material removal in milling applications. Built from M42 cobalt high-speed steel, it handles tough ferrous and non-ferrous materials where standard HSS tooling falls short. The 1/2 inch diameter cutter features 4 right-hand spiral flutes with a 30-degree maximum helix angle and a 1-1/4 inch length of cut. The bright, uncoated finish makes it easy to inspect for wear. Overall length is 3-1/4 inches with a 1/2 inch straight shank. This tool is installed and used by machinists and tool-and-die professionals in manual and CNC milling operations.
This roughing end mill fits standard 1/2 inch ER or side-lock milling chucks and collets. It is suited for roughing passes in ferrous alloys, stainless steels, and high-temperature alloys where the M42 cobalt grade provides added red hardness compared to M2 HSS. Regular-length geometry makes it appropriate for general shop use, vertical mill work, and CNC roughing cycles where a non-chipbreaker spiral flute profile is preferred. It is not center-cutting, so it requires a pre-drilled or pre-bored entry point before plunging.
Designed as a standard 1/2 inch shank roughing end mill compatible with ER collet chucks, Weldon side-lock holders, and similar 1/2 inch bore milling tool holders used in manual knee mills and CNC machining centers.
Installation is performed by a qualified machinist or toolroom professional. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and the tool holder is clean and free of debris before seating the shank. Torque the set screw or collet nut to the tool holder manufacturers specification. Confirm runout with a dial indicator before beginning a cut, as excessive runout accelerates flute wear and can cause chatter on roughing passes.
