The SECO 17014080 is a single-end cobalt roughing end mill designed for aggressive material removal in milling operations. Built from M42 cobalt high-speed steel and coated with TiCN for improved wear resistance and heat tolerance, this tool handles tough ferrous and non-ferrous materials where standard HSS tooling falls short. It carries a 3/8 inch mill diameter, a 3/4 inch length of cut, and a 2-1/2 inch overall length. The 4-flute, right-hand spiral configuration and 30-degree maximum helix angle promote efficient chip evacuation while maintaining cutting stability on vertical and horizontal milling machines.
This end mill is suited for production and job-shop environments where roughing passes demand consistent tool life and dimensional control. It fits standard 3/8 inch tool holders and is appropriate for use on CNC machining centers and manual knee mills. Machinists and tool-and-die professionals typically deploy this style of roughing end mill for slotting, profiling, and peripheral milling in steel, stainless, and alloy materials. The TiCN coating makes it a practical choice for dry or minimal-coolant cutting environments, as coolant-through is not supported on this tool.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or direct drop-in for standard 3/8 inch single-end roughing end mills in conventional and CNC milling setups; part of the SECO REM710 series.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists following shop safety procedures. Ensure the spindle is fully stopped and locked out before changing tooling. Seat the shank fully into the collet or end mill holder and torque the retention hardware per the machine manufacturer's specification. Verify runout with a dial indicator before commencing the cut, as excessive runout accelerates flute wear and reduces surface quality.
