The SECO 17014072 is a single-end cobalt roughing end mill designed for aggressive material removal in milling applications. Built from M42 cobalt high-speed steel, it delivers hardness and heat resistance that outperforms standard HSS tooling in demanding cuts. The 5/16-inch diameter cutter features four flutes in a right-hand spiral configuration with a 30-degree maximum helix angle. Length of cut is 3/4 inch with a 2-1/2-inch overall length. The bright, uncoated finish suits techs who prefer to apply their own coatings or who run coolant-free operations. This tool is installed by machinists and CNC operators in job shop and production environments.
The 17014072 is suited for roughing passes on ferrous and non-ferrous materials where rapid stock removal is the priority. The 3/8-inch shank diameter fits standard collets and tool holders in vertical mills and machining centers. Its regular-length profile makes it a practical choice for general-purpose roughing where extended reach is not required. The right-hand cutting direction and spiral flute geometry clear chips efficiently during conventional and climb milling operations.
Designed as a direct-fit replacement or standard tooling selection for vertical mills, knee mills, and CNC machining centers using 3/8-inch collets or end mill holders. Compatible with any setup that accepts a 3/8-inch straight shank.
Installation is performed by a machinist or CNC operator. Power down and lock out the spindle before seating or removing the end mill from the collet or tool holder. Ensure the shank is fully seated and the collet nut is torqued to the tool holder manufacturer's specification before running the spindle. Inspect the cutting edges for chips or damage before each use, and verify runout with a dial indicator when tolerance-critical work is involved.
