The SECO 17013551 is a single-end roughing end mill designed for aggressive material removal in milling applications. Built from M42 cobalt high-speed steel and coated with TiCN for improved wear resistance and heat tolerance, this tool is engineered for demanding cuts in ferrous and non-ferrous metals. It features a 1/2 inch mill diameter, a 2 inch length of cut, and a 4 inch overall length. The right-hand cutting, right-hand spiral flute geometry with a high helix style and 36-degree maximum helix angle promotes efficient chip evacuation during heavy roughing passes. Machinists and tool-and-die professionals are the primary installers and users of this end mill.
This end mill is suited for roughing operations on machining centers and manual mills where rapid stock removal is the priority. The TiCN coating extends tool life in medium-to-hard workpiece materials including alloy steels, stainless steels, and cast iron. The 1/2 inch shank diameter matches standard ER and side-lock tool holders commonly found in production shops. With center-cutting capability, it can be used for plunge entries as well as peripheral cuts, making it a versatile choice for slotting, profiling, and pocketing roughing operations.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or direct-application roughing end mill for use in 1/2 inch tool holders on standard vertical machining centers and manual knee mills requiring a 3-flute cobalt single-end roughing geometry.
Installation is performed by a qualified machinist or toolroom professional. Ensure the spindle is fully stopped and the machine is powered down before changing tooling. Seat the shank fully into the tool holder and torque the retention mechanism per the tool holder manufacturer's specification. Verify runout with a dial indicator before beginning a cut, as excessive runout accelerates tool wear and reduces surface finish quality.
