The SECO 17013504 is a single-end roughing end mill engineered for aggressive material removal in milling applications. Built from M42 cobalt high-speed steel and coated with TiCN (Titanium Carbonitride), it delivers elevated hardness and wear resistance at elevated cutting temperatures. The 1 inch diameter cutter features 5 spiral flutes in a right-hand cutting and right-hand flute direction, with a 30-degree maximum helix angle. The 4 inch length of cut allows deep slotting and peripheral milling passes, while the regular-length geometry keeps the tool rigid enough for demanding cuts. Machinists and toolroom technicians use this end mill for roughing passes on steel, stainless, and high-temperature alloys.
The 17013504 is suited for vertical and horizontal milling machines, machining centers, and CNC knee mills where high-feed roughing passes are required. The 1 inch shank diameter mates directly to standard ER, Weldon, or hydraulic toolholders. With a 6.5 inch overall length and a non-centercutting geometry, this tool is intended for peripheral and slotting cuts rather than plunge operations. The TiCN coating is well matched to ferrous workpiece materials where heat buildup and tool wear are primary concerns. Coolant-through capability is not included in this design, so flood or mist coolant at the periphery is the recommended approach.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or direct-use roughing end mill in standard 1 inch bore toolholders on milling machines and machining centers. Part of the SECO REM710 series.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or toolroom technicians. De-energize and lock out the machine spindle before inserting or removing the end mill from its toolholder. Verify shank runout and toolholder concentricity before engaging the workpiece, as excessive runout accelerates flute wear. Non-centercutting geometry means this tool must not be used for direct plunge entry into solid material without a pre-drilled or helical entry path.
