The SECO 17013495 is a single-end cobalt roughing end mill designed for aggressive material removal in milling applications. Built from M42 cobalt high-speed steel and coated with TiCN for increased surface hardness and heat resistance, this tool handles tough ferrous materials, stainless steels, and high-temperature alloys. It features a 5/8 inch diameter, a 2.5 inch length of cut, and a 4-5/8 inch overall length. The right-hand cutting direction and 30-degree maximum helix angle produce efficient chip evacuation during heavy roughing passes. Machinists and tool-and-die professionals typically specify this cutter for production environments where tool longevity and cut rate are both priorities.
This end mill is suited for conventional and CNC vertical milling operations in job shop, production, and maintenance machining environments. The TiCN coating performs well in dry and semi-dry cutting conditions. The 5/8 inch shank diameter matches the cutter diameter, making it compatible with standard collet chucks, end mill holders, and milling chucks that accept 5/8 inch straight shanks. The regular length profile keeps it practical for most workpiece setups without excessive overhang.

Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist following the machine tool manufacturer guidelines for tool holding and runout. Ensure the spindle is fully stopped and the machine is in a safe locked-out state before changing tooling. Seat the shank to the recommended engagement depth in the holder and torque the set screw or collet nut per the holder manufacturer specification. Because this is a non-center-cutting end mill, avoid direct plunge entry into solid material without a pre-drilled or pre-milled entry point.
