The SECO 17013490 is a single-end cobalt roughing end mill designed for aggressive material removal in milling operations. Built from M42 cobalt high-speed steel and finished with a TiCN coating, it delivers enhanced wear resistance and heat tolerance compared to standard HSS tooling. The 5/16-inch diameter cutter features 4 right-hand spiral flutes with a 30-degree maximum helix angle, producing the interrupted chip pattern characteristic of roughing geometry. This tool is used by machinists and tooling technicians on manual mills and CNC machining centers where rapid stock removal is the priority before a finishing pass.
This roughing end mill is suited for ferrous and non-ferrous metal cutting applications in job shop, production, and maintenance machining environments. With a 1.375-inch length of cut and a 3.125-inch overall length, it fits standard 3/8-inch collets and tool holders. It is a non-centercutting design, meaning it is intended for side milling and slotting rather than plunge cutting. The regular-length profile keeps deflection low during heavy lateral passes.
Designed as a direct-fit replacement for 3/8-inch shank roughing end mill tooling in standard ER collet chucks, milling chucks, and shrink-fit holders used on vertical and horizontal machining centers.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or tooling technician. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and the tool holder is clean and free of chips or debris before seating the shank. Torque the collet nut or chuck to the tool holder manufacturer's specifications. Verify runout with a dial indicator before beginning a cut, as excessive runout accelerates wear on roughing geometry.
