The SECO 17012958 is a cobalt ball end mill designed for milling operations requiring a full radius profile at the cutting tip. Built to Series SPB540 standards, it features a 0.5000-inch mill diameter, a 2.0000-inch length of cut, and four spiral flutes with a 30-degree medium helix angle. A TiCN (Titanium Carbonitride) PVD coating improves wear resistance and surface lubricity across a broad range of workpiece materials. The Weldon Flat shank provides positive drive retention in compatible holders. This tool handles both roughing and finishing passes in a single-end, right-hand cutting configuration.
This ball end mill is suited for machining steel, stainless steel, cast iron, aluminum and non-ferrous alloys, and high-temperature alloys, covering ISO material codes P, M, K, N, and S. The long-series overall length of 4.0000 inches and 2.0000-inch reach length make it appropriate for deeper cavity and pocket milling where a standard-reach tool would not clear the workpiece. It is centercutting, allowing plunge entry, and is used in CNC machining centers and manual mills by machinists and toolroom technicians in industrial, production, and job-shop environments.
Designed for use with standard 1/2-inch end mill holders or collet chucks accepting a Weldon Flat shank. Compatible workpiece materials include steel, stainless steel, cast iron, aluminum and non-ferrous alloys, and high-temperature alloys as indicated by ISO codes P, M, K, N, and S.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or toolroom personnel. Before mounting, confirm the holder bore and collet size match the 0.5000-inch shank diameter and that the Weldon Flat set screw aligns with the flat on the shank. Power down and lock out the spindle before inserting or removing the tool. Do not exceed the spindle speed and feed rate parameters established in the shop's speeds-and-feeds data for the specific workpiece material and depth of cut.
