The SECO 17012957 is a 4-flute cobalt ball end mill from the SPB540 series, designed for finishing operations in demanding machining environments. It features a 0.5-inch cutting diameter with a 0.25-inch nose radius and a 1-inch length of cut. The TiCN PVD coating reduces friction and extends tool life across a range of workpiece materials. The 30-degree medium helix angle promotes smooth chip evacuation during right-hand cutting. The SPB540 series ball end mill is suited for finishing passes on steel, stainless steel, cast iron, non-ferrous metals, superalloys, and titanium. Its short-length geometry and 0.5-inch Weldon flat shank provide rigid, secure tool holding in standard end mill holders. It is a single-end, spiral-flute design with no chipbreaker, no coolant-through provision, and no extended reach, making it best applied in close-clearance finishing setups where tool deflection must be minimized.

Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist following standard tooling setup procedures. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and locked out before inserting or removing the tool. Secure the Weldon flat against the set screw in the tool holder to the shop standard torque specification for the holder size. Verify runout does not exceed the 0.001-inch TIR maximum before beginning the cut.
