The SECO 17012954 is a single-end ball end mill from the SPB540 series, designed for milling contoured surfaces, pockets, and complex 3D profiles on CNC machining centers and manual mills. The cutter measures 3/8 inch (0.3750 inch) in diameter with a 1-1/2 inch (1.5000 inch) length of cut and a 3-1/4 inch (3.2500 inch) overall length. Cobalt construction combined with a TiCN (titanium carbonitride) PVD coating delivers elevated hardness and heat resistance, making this mill suitable for demanding cutting conditions. A 30-degree medium helix and four right-hand spiral flutes support both roughing and finishing passes in a single tool.
This end mill is suited for milling steel, stainless steel, cast iron, aluminum and non-ferrous metals, and high-temperature alloys. The long-length configuration and 1.5000-inch reach length make it appropriate for applications requiring deeper cavity access without sacrificing rigidity. The Weldon flat shank ensures secure tool holding in standard end mill holders and collet chucks. It is center-cutting and right-hand cutting, supporting ramp-in and plunge entry strategies common in die, mold, and general machining operations.
Part of the SECO SPB540 series (catalog number SPB540-0.375-D4-B.3-Z4). Designed for use in standard 3/8-inch end mill holders and collet chucks on CNC machining centers and manual knee mills where a long-reach ball end mill is required.
Installation is performed by a machinist or CNC tooling technician. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and locked before changing tools. Seat the Weldon flat against the set screw in the holder and torque to the holder manufacturer specification to prevent axial pullout. Verify runout with a dial indicator before beginning a production cut; TIR maximum for this tool is 0.0010 inch per specification.
