The SECO 17011902 is a 6-flute cobalt square end mill engineered for heavy-duty milling in metalworking and machining applications. Built from M42 cobalt high-speed steel, it delivers excellent heat and wear resistance during demanding cuts. The tool measures 2 inches in cutting diameter with a 4-inch length of cut, a 1.25-inch shank diameter, and a 6.5-inch overall length. The bright/uncoated finish suits applications where bare cobalt is preferred or where post-coating is planned. A 30-degree helix angle promotes smooth chip flow and reduced cutting forces. Machinists and toolroom professionals reach for this end mill when working steel, stainless steel, cast iron, aluminum, non-ferrous materials, and high-temperature alloys.
The 17011902 belongs to the SECO SPC408 series and is configured as a single-end, centercutting tool with right-hand cut and right-hand flute direction. Its short-length classification makes it well suited to rigid setups on vertical mills, CNC machining centers, and manual knee mills where overhang must be minimized. The centercutting geometry allows plunge entry directly into the workpiece, which expands its usefulness across slotting, profiling, and pocketing operations on a wide range of workpiece materials including steel (P), stainless (M), cast iron (K), aluminum and non-ferrous (N), and high-temp alloys (S).
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or direct substitute for standard 2-inch cobalt square end mills in the SPC408 series. Suitable for use in any R8, CAT, BT, or HSK toolholder accepting a 1.25-inch straight shank. Compatible workpiece materials include steel, stainless steel, cast iron, aluminum and non-ferrous materials, and high-temperature alloys as defined by ISO material groups P, M, K, N, and S.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists following standard toolholder torque and runout verification procedures. Verify TIR does not exceed 0.001 inches at the cutting diameter before starting the cut. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before changing or seating the end mill in the holder. Always apply appropriate cutting fluid for the workpiece material and observe machine manufacturer feed and speed recommendations when setting up new tooling.
