The SECO 17011899 is a single-end cobalt square end mill designed for high-removal milling in ferrous and non-ferrous materials. Built to M42 cobalt high-speed steel grade, it delivers heat resistance and edge retention that standard HSS tools cannot match in demanding cuts. The cutter measures 1.5 inches in diameter with an 8-inch length of cut and a 10.5-inch overall length, giving it extended reach for deep-pocket and long-reach milling operations. The bright uncoated finish is suited for applications where coating adhesion or material reactivity is a concern. Licensed machinists and tool-and-die professionals are the primary installers of this tool class.
This end mill is used in vertical and horizontal machining centers for slotting, profiling, and peripheral milling across a broad range of workpiece materials including steel, stainless steel, cast iron, aluminum and non-ferrous alloys, and high-temperature alloys. The 30-degree helix spiral flute geometry supports chip evacuation in deep cuts. The 1.25-inch straight shank fits standard ER and side-lock toolholders common in production and job-shop environments. It belongs to the SECO SPC408 series.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or direct-fit tooling option for machines accepting a 1.25-inch straight shank in the SPC408 series. Compatible primary workpiece materials include steel, stainless steel, cast iron, aluminum and non-ferrous alloys, and high-temperature alloys per SECO material codes P, M, K, N, and S.
Installation is performed by a machinist or tooling specialist. Before changing tooling, bring the spindle to a full stop and follow lockout procedures per machine manufacturer guidelines. Verify the toolholder bore diameter and runout before seating the shank; maximum TIR is 0.0010 inches. Ensure proper stick-out length to maintain rigidity and avoid chatter at depth, and confirm feed and speed parameters are appropriate for the workpiece material before initiating a cut.
