The SECO 17011890 is a cobalt square end mill designed for material removal in demanding machining applications. Built from M42 cobalt high-speed steel, it delivers superior heat and wear resistance compared to standard HSS tooling. The cutter runs a 1.5-inch mill diameter with a 2-inch length of cut, a 1.25-inch shank diameter, and a 4.5-inch overall length. Four spiral flutes with a 30-degree helix angle promote efficient chip evacuation and smooth cutting action. The bright, uncoated finish suits applications where coating reactions with the workpiece material are a concern. Machinists and tool-and-die professionals install this end mill in vertical mills, CNC machining centers, and manual knee mills.
This end mill is suited for slotting, profiling, and peripheral milling operations across a broad range of primary workpiece materials including steel, stainless steel, cast iron, aluminum and non-ferrous alloys, and high-temperature alloys. Its centercutting geometry allows plunge entry directly into the workpiece without a pre-drilled hole. The right-hand cut and right-hand flute configuration is standard for conventional spindle rotation. The stub length-of-cut classification keeps the tool profile rigid, reducing deflection in heavier cuts on ferrous and difficult materials.
Designed for use with standard end mill holders and collet chucks accepting a 1.25-inch shank diameter. Suitable for steel, stainless steel, cast iron, aluminum and non-ferrous metals, and high-temperature alloys per Series SPC408 application guidelines.
Installation is performed by a qualified machinist. Secure the shank fully in a clean, properly sized collet or end mill holder to the recommended engagement depth, then torque the retention hardware according to the toolholder manufacturer specifications. Inspect the spindle and holder bore for runout before mounting; maximum TIR for this tool is 0.0010 inches. Never exceed the machine spindle speed and feed rate limits for the workpiece material and tool diameter combination.
