The SECO 17011873 is a cobalt square end mill designed for general-purpose and demanding milling operations across a wide range of metallic workpiece materials. Built from M42 cobalt high-speed steel, this single-end tool features a 1.25-inch cutting diameter, a 6-inch length of cut, and an overall length of 8.5 inches with a matching 1.25-inch shank diameter. The 4-flute, 30-degree right-hand spiral geometry provides efficient chip evacuation and stable cutting performance. Licensed machinists and tool-and-die professionals specify this series when longer reach and rigidity are needed in production or job-shop environments.
This end mill is suited for milling operations on steel, stainless steel, cast iron, aluminum and non-ferrous alloys, and high-temperature alloys. The SPC408 series is a workhorse choice for slotting, profiling, and peripheral milling where an uncoated cobalt tool is preferred over carbide or coated alternatives. The centercutting design allows plunge entry, broadening its use in both roughing and finishing passes without requiring a pre-drilled start hole.
Designed for use in standard end mill holders, collet chucks, and shrink-fit tooling accepting a 1.25-inch shank diameter. Suitable for milling steel (ISO P), stainless steel (ISO M), cast iron (ISO K), aluminum and non-ferrous materials (ISO N), and high-temperature alloys (ISO S) per the manufacturer attribute data.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist following shop safety procedures and machine tool manufacturer guidelines. Ensure the spindle is fully stopped and locked out before mounting or removing the tool. Verify holder bore diameter and runout before tightening to prevent premature edge wear. Consult speeds and feeds charts for M42 cobalt at the specific workpiece material and depth of cut before the first pass.
