The SECO 17011749 is a single-end, square-profile cobalt end mill designed for milling operations on a wide range of metallic workpiece materials. Built from M42 cobalt high-speed steel, it delivers improved heat and wear resistance compared to standard M2 HSS tooling. The cutter measures 9/16 inches in diameter with a 1-3/8 inch length of cut, a 1/2 inch shank diameter, and a 3-3/8 inch overall length. Four right-hand spiral flutes with a 30-degree helix angle promote efficient chip evacuation. The bright uncoated finish suits applications where coating interaction with the workpiece is a concern. This tool is installed and run by machinists and toolroom professionals on manual mills and CNC machining centers.
The 17011749 is suited for slotting, profiling, and peripheral milling in steel, stainless steel, cast iron, aluminum and non-ferrous metals, and high-temperature alloys. Its centercutting geometry allows plunge entry directly into the workpiece, adding versatility for pocketing operations. The short length type provides added rigidity, which reduces deflection and chatter in demanding cuts. This tool fits standard 1/2 inch collets and end mill holders common across vertical and horizontal machining setups.
Designed for use in standard 1/2 inch end mill holders and collet chucks. Compatible workpiece materials per series specification include steel, stainless steel, cast iron, aluminum and non-ferrous metals, and high-temperature alloys (ISO material codes P, M, K, N, and S).
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or toolroom technician. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and locked out before changing tooling. Seat the 1/2 inch shank to the recommended engagement depth in the holder and torque the set screw or collet nut to the tool holder manufacturer's specification. Verify runout against the published TIR maximum of 0.0010 inches before commencing cuts.
