The SECO 17011742 is a single-end, square-profile cobalt end mill built for general-purpose milling in demanding shop environments. Manufactured from M42 cobalt high-speed steel, it delivers heat and wear resistance beyond standard M2 HSS tooling. The cutter measures 0.5 inches in diameter with a 4-inch length of cut, a 0.5-inch shank diameter, and a 6-inch overall length. Four spiral flutes with a 30-degree helix angle provide efficient chip evacuation and a smooth cutting action. The uncoated bright finish is standard for this series. Right-hand cut and right-hand flute geometry follow conventional milling orientation. Licensed machinists and CNC operators install this tool in vertical and horizontal milling machines.
The 17011742 belongs to the SECO SPC408 series, a regular-length line designed for versatile material removal across a broad range of workpiece types. Rated primary workpiece materials include steel, stainless steel, cast iron, aluminum and non-ferrous alloys, and high-temperature alloys. The centercutting design allows plunge entry directly into the workpiece, making it suitable for slotting, profiling, and pocketing operations. No coolant-through capability is present, so external coolant application or air blast is recommended for chip management in deep cuts.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or direct-fit tooling option for standard 0.5-inch collet or end mill holders in vertical mills, CNC machining centers, and manual Bridgeport-style machines. Rated for steel, stainless steel, cast iron, aluminum and non-ferrous materials, and high-temperature alloys per SECO SPC408 series specifications.
Installation is performed by a qualified machinist or CNC operator. Ensure the spindle is fully stopped and the machine is in a locked or e-stopped state before inserting or removing the end mill. Seat the shank fully into the collet or end mill holder and torque the retention mechanism to the tool-holder manufacturer specification. Verify runout against the stated TIR maximum of 0.0010 inches before beginning the cut. Inspect the collet bore for wear or contamination that could affect concentricity.
