The SECO 17011741 is a single-end, four-flute cobalt square end mill designed for general-purpose milling in a range of metalworking applications. Built from M42 cobalt high-speed steel, it delivers improved heat and wear resistance compared to standard HSS tooling. The cutter features a 0.5 inch mill diameter, a 1 inch length of cut, and a 3/8 inch shank diameter, with an overall length of 2.6875 inches. A 30-degree helix angle promotes efficient chip evacuation and smooth cutting action. This is a right-hand cut, right-hand flute tool with spiral flutes and a bright, uncoated finish. It is centercutting, allowing plunge entry into the workpiece. Licensed machinists and CNC programmers specify this tool for precision slot milling, profiling, and pocket work on ferrous and non-ferrous materials.
The 17011741 is suited for milling steel, stainless steel, cast iron, aluminum and non-ferrous metals, and high-temperature alloys. Its short-length configuration provides added rigidity, making it a practical choice for setups where overhang must be minimized and dimensional accuracy is critical. The SPC408 series is engineered for production environments where consistent tool life and repeatable results are required. This end mill fits standard 3/8 inch collets and toolholders used on manual mills, vertical machining centers, and CNC milling machines.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement and general-use end mill for 3/8 inch collet toolholders on manual mills and CNC vertical machining centers. Rated for use on steel, stainless steel, cast iron, aluminum and non-ferrous, and high-temperature alloys per Series SPC408 material codes P, M, K, N, and S.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or toolroom personnel. Secure the shank fully into a clean, properly sized 3/8 inch collet or end mill holder and torque the retention mechanism per the toolholder manufacturer specification. Inspect the collet and holder bore for runout before cutting — maximum TIR for this tool is 0.001 inches. Ensure the machine spindle is at a complete stop before installing or removing this tool. Do not exceed the rated length of cut of 1 inch during engaged passes.
