The SECO 17011738 is a single-end, 4-flute square end mill designed for material removal in ferrous and non-ferrous machining applications. Built from M42 cobalt high-speed steel, it delivers heat and wear resistance suitable for interrupted cuts and tough alloys. The tool measures 0.5 inches in diameter with a 2-inch length of cut, a 0.5-inch shank diameter, and a 4-inch overall length. A 30-degree helix angle promotes efficient chip evacuation, while the bright uncoated finish suits shops that prefer to apply their own coating or run the tool as-is on lower-hardness materials. Centercutting geometry allows plunge entry, and both cut and flute directions are right-hand.
This end mill is suited for milling steel, stainless steel, cast iron, aluminum, non-ferrous materials, and high-temperature alloys. It fits CNC machining centers, manual knee mills, and toolroom setups where a long-series cobalt end mill is needed. The SPC408 series is oriented toward general-purpose applications where dimensional accuracy and tool life under moderate cutting conditions are priorities. Machinists working in job shops, maintenance facilities, or production environments will find it appropriate for slotting, profiling, and shoulder milling operations.

Installation and tool changes should be performed with the spindle fully stopped and the machine in a locked-out state per applicable machine tool safety procedures. Proper tool runout should be verified after seating; the manufacturer specifies a maximum TIR of 0.0010 inches. Use appropriate cutting fluid or coolant for the workpiece material, noting that this tool does not feature through-coolant capability. A qualified machinist or CNC programmer should confirm feeds, speeds, and depth-of-cut parameters before production use.
