The SECO 17011729 is a cobalt square end mill designed for material removal in milling operations on machining centers and manual mills. Built from M42 cobalt high-speed steel, this single-end tool features four right-hand spiral flutes with a 30-degree helix angle, delivering efficient chip evacuation and a stable cutting action. The stub-length geometry — 0.375 inches cutting length on a 0.375-inch diameter — keeps the tool rigid in short-reach applications where chatter and deflection are concerns. The bright uncoated finish makes it straightforward to inspect for wear. Centercutting capability allows direct plunge entry without a pre-drilled pilot hole.
This end mill is suited for general-purpose milling in a broad range of workpiece materials including steel, stainless steel, cast iron, aluminum and other non-ferrous materials, and high-temperature alloys. Typical applications include slot milling, profiling, and face milling in job shop and production environments. The 0.375-inch shank fits standard ER collet chucks, side-lock holders, and shrink-fit tooling with a 3/8-inch bore. It is part of the SPC408 series and is sold as a single-piece unit.
Designed for use in standard 3/8-inch bore milling toolholders including ER collet chucks and side-lock holders. Suitable for milling steel (P), stainless steel (M), cast iron (K), aluminum and non-ferrous (N), and high-temperature alloy (S) workpiece material classifications per ISO designation.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or tooling technicians. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and locked out before changing tooling. Seat the shank fully into the holder and verify runout against the 0.001-inch TIR maximum specification before cutting. Observe the shank diameter tolerance of -0.0001 to -0.0005 inches when selecting a matching collet size to ensure proper grip and minimize runout.
