The SECO 17011717 is a cobalt square end mill designed for general-purpose milling in metalworking and machining environments. Built from M42 cobalt high-speed steel, this single-end mill features a 5/16 inch cutting diameter and four spiral flutes with a 30-degree helix angle, delivering efficient chip evacuation and smooth cutting action. The bright uncoated finish suits applications where coating is not required or where regrinding is anticipated. With a 2 inch length of cut and 3/8 inch shank diameter, it fits standard collets and end mill holders found across most vertical machining centers and manual knee mills. Machinists and toolroom operators rely on this configuration for slotting, profiling, and peripheral milling on a range of ferrous and non-ferrous workpiece materials.
This end mill is rated for use on steel, stainless steel, cast iron, aluminum and non-ferrous materials, and high-temperature alloys. It is suited to production and job-shop environments where a cost-effective cobalt tool is preferred over carbide for interrupted cuts or setups where tool deflection or chatter is a concern. The right-hand cut and right-hand flute configuration is the standard orientation for conventional CNC and manual milling operations. Centercutting geometry allows plunge entry directly into the workpiece without a pre-drilled pilot hole.

Installation is performed by machining professionals using standard end mill holders or collet systems sized for a 3/8 inch shank. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and locked before changing tooling. Secure the shank to the full recommended engagement depth in the holder to minimize runout — maximum TIR for this tool is 0.0010 inches. Verify correct spindle rotation direction (right-hand) before beginning a cut, and apply appropriate cutting fluid for the workpiece material being machined.
