The SECO 17011716 is a cobalt square end mill designed for material removal in demanding machining applications. Built from M42 cobalt high-speed steel, it delivers heat and wear resistance beyond standard HSS tooling, making it well suited for interrupted cuts and tougher work materials. The 4-flute, single-end geometry with a 30-degree spiral helix provides efficient chip evacuation and a stable cutting action. With a 5/16 inch cutting diameter and 1-3/8 inch length of cut, this end mill handles slotting, profiling, and peripheral milling operations where rigidity and tool life are critical. It arrives in a bright, uncoated finish with no coating added to alter edge sharpness.
This end mill is part of the SPC408 long series and is rated for use on steel, stainless steel, cast iron, aluminum and non-ferrous metals, and high-temperature alloys. It is a centercutting tool, meaning it can be plunged directly into the workpiece. The right-hand cut and right-hand flute configuration is standard for conventional CNC and manual milling setups. The long series LOC makes it appropriate for pockets, slots, or features requiring reach beyond what a stub or standard-length tool provides. Machinists working in job shop, toolroom, and production environments will find it a straightforward drop-in for general-purpose milling work.
Designed as a general-purpose replacement or production end mill for milling applications in steel, stainless steel, cast iron, aluminum and non-ferrous metals, and high-temperature alloys, per SECO SPC408 series specifications. No specific machine or system compatibility was stated in the product data.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or toolroom technicians using a collet, end mill holder, or milling chuck sized for the 3/8 inch shank diameter. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and the machine is powered down before changing tooling. Verify runout does not exceed the 0.0010 inch TIR maximum before beginning a cut. Follow applicable shop safety procedures and machine manufacturer guidelines for spindle speed and feed rate selection based on workpiece material.
