The SECO 17011708 is a cobalt square end mill designed for material removal in ferrous and non-ferrous metals across milling, slotting, and profiling operations. Built from M42 cobalt high-speed steel, it delivers heat resistance and edge retention in demanding cuts. It carries a bright uncoated finish, a 30-degree helix angle, and a 4-flute spiral configuration with centercutting capability. At 0.25 inches in diameter with a 1.25-inch length of cut, this is a right-hand cut, right-hand flute tool suited for precise work in steel, stainless steel, cast iron, aluminum, non-ferrous materials, and high-temperature alloys. It is a single-end tool in the SPC408 series.
This end mill fits standard vertical and horizontal milling machines, CNC machining centers, and manual knee mills. Its 0.375-inch shank diameter accepts common ER and end mill collet holders. The centercutting design allows direct plunge entry into workpieces. Typical applications include slotting, shoulder milling, and contour milling in job shop, tool and die, and production machining environments. It is sized for light-to-medium material removal where tight tolerance and surface finish matter.

Installation and tool changes must be performed with the spindle fully stopped and machine power locked out per applicable shop safety procedures. Seat the shank fully into the collet or end mill holder and torque the retention hardware to the tool holder manufacturer specification. Confirm runout with a dial indicator before cutting — maximum TIR is 0.001 inches per specification. Apply cutting fluid appropriate to the workpiece material and verify chip clearance before engaging full depth of cut.
