The SECO 17011701 is a 4-flute cobalt square end mill designed for material removal in ferrous and non-ferrous machining applications. Built from M42 cobalt high-speed steel, it delivers increased heat and wear resistance compared to standard HSS tooling. The 3/16-inch cutting diameter, 1/2-inch length of cut, and 3/8-inch shank diameter make it suited for slotting, profiling, and peripheral milling in smaller-envelope workpieces. The bright uncoated finish and 30-degree helix angle support chip evacuation across a broad range of workpiece materials. It is a single-end, centercutting design capable of plunge entry as well as conventional milling passes.
This end mill is appropriate for use on manual knee mills, CNC vertical machining centers, and toolroom mills where a compact, general-purpose cobalt cutter is required. Primary workpiece materials include steel, stainless steel, cast iron, aluminum and non-ferrous alloys, and high-temperature alloys. The Series SPC408 designation places it within SECO's fractional-inch cobalt end mill line, making it a practical stock cutter for job shops and maintenance machining environments. Right-hand cut and right-hand flute orientation are standard for conventional spindle setups.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or direct-application cobalt square end mill for machining centers and manual mills accepting a 3/8-inch shank. Compatible workpiece materials include steel, stainless steel, cast iron, aluminum and non-ferrous alloys, and high-temperature alloys per SECO Series SPC408 specifications.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or tooling technician. Secure the 3/8-inch shank in a clean, properly sized collet or toolholder and verify runout does not exceed the 0.0010-inch TIR maximum before cutting. Confirm spindle direction is right-hand before engaging the cutter. Follow shop-standard feeds, speeds, and coolant practices appropriate to the workpiece material and machine capability.
