The SECO 17011662 is a single-end, square-profile cobalt end mill engineered for milling steel, stainless steel, cast iron, and high-temperature alloys. Built from M42 cobalt high-speed steel, it delivers heat resistance and edge retention in demanding cutting conditions where standard HSS tooling falls short. The cutter features a 1.125-inch diameter, a 1.625-inch length of cut, and a 30-degree helix angle with right-hand cut and right-hand spiral fluting. The bright, uncoated finish makes wear patterns easy to spot during inspection. This is a centercutting tool, meaning it can be plunged directly into workpiece material without pre-drilling. It belongs to the SECO SP205 stub-length series.
This end mill is suited for general-purpose milling operations in job shops, maintenance machining, and production environments. The stub length type provides added rigidity compared to standard-length tools, reducing deflection in heavier cuts. The 2-flute configuration improves chip clearance when working in softer steels or when slotting applications require maximum flute space. It is installed in CNC machining centers, knee mills, and manual or CNC-controlled milling machines with a 1-inch diameter tool holder or collet. Material compatibility codes P, M, K, and S cover carbon steels, stainless alloys, cast irons, and heat-resistant superalloys.
Designed for use in 1-inch straight-shank tool holders and collets on CNC machining centers and manual milling machines. Rated for primary workpiece materials including steel (P), stainless steel (M), cast iron (K), and high-temperature alloys (S) per ISO material classification.
Installation is performed by machining professionals using a properly sized collet, end mill holder, or shrink-fit holder rated for the 1-inch shank diameter. Ensure the spindle is fully powered down and the machine is in a safe, locked state before tool changes. Verify runout after installation using a dial indicator — maximum allowable TIR for this tool is 0.001 inches. Consult the machine manufacturer and applicable shop safety standards for speeds, feeds, and coolant strategy based on workpiece material.
