The SECO 17011658 is a single-end cobalt square end mill engineered for material removal in demanding machining applications. It features a 1-inch cutting diameter, a 1.5-inch length of cut, and a 0.75-inch shank diameter, with a 3.75-inch overall length. Built from M42 cobalt high-speed steel, it delivers superior heat and wear resistance compared to standard HSS tooling. The spiral flute geometry runs at a 30-degree helix angle with right-hand cut and right-hand flute orientation. The bright, uncoated finish suits applications where coating compatibility or re-sharpening is a priority. This tool is centercutting, allowing direct plunge entry into workpiece material.
The 17011658 is suited for milling operations on steel, stainless steel, cast iron, and high-temperature alloys, covering ISO material groups P, M, K, and S. Its short-length profile provides rigidity for slotting, side milling, and pocketing on vertical machining centers and manual knee mills. It belongs to the SP205 series, which targets general-purpose and production environments where cobalt tooling is preferred over carbide for interrupted cuts or less rigid setups. Machinists and tool-and-die professionals typically reach for this geometry when working with materials that generate high cutting temperatures.
Designed for use in machining applications involving steel, stainless steel, cast iron, and high-temperature alloys. Fits standard 0.75-inch collet chucks, end mill holders, and Weldon-style tool holders on vertical machining centers and manual mills. Part of the SECO SP205 series.
Installation and tool changes must be performed with the machine spindle fully stopped and the control in an e-stop or locked-out state per OSHA lockout/tagout procedures. Seat the 0.75-inch shank fully into the holder and torque set screws or collet nuts to the holder manufacturer specification. Verify runout does not exceed the rated TIR maximum of 0.001 inches before beginning a cut. A licensed machinist or qualified CNC operator should confirm feeds, speeds, and depth of cut for the specific workpiece material and machine rigidity before production use.
