The SECO 17011656 is a cobalt square end mill designed for material removal in ferrous and high-temperature alloy applications. Built from M42 cobalt high-speed steel, it delivers the heat and wear resistance needed when cutting steel, stainless steel, cast iron, and high-temp alloys. The tool measures 0.875 inches in diameter with a 1.5-inch length of cut and a 3.75-inch overall length. The 30-degree helix spiral flute geometry promotes efficient chip evacuation and stable cutting action. Centercutting capability allows plunge entry without a pre-drilled pilot hole, giving machinists and tool-and-die professionals added versatility on the mill.
This end mill is suited for short-reach milling operations on manual and CNC vertical mills. It fits standard 7/8-inch collets and end mill holders found in production and job shop environments. Typical applications include slotting, profiling, and peripheral milling in steel and stainless steel workpieces. The bright, uncoated finish makes it straightforward to regrind and return to service. It is sold as a single-end tool in the SP205 series, which targets general-purpose short-length milling at fractional-inch sizes.
Designed for use in 7/8-inch end mill holders and collet chucks on vertical milling machines, machining centers, and manual knee mills. Primary workpiece materials are steel, stainless steel, cast iron, and high-temp alloys (ISO material codes P, M, K, S).
Installation is performed by a machinist or toolroom technician. Ensure the spindle is fully stopped and the machine is in a safe, locked-out state before loading or removing the tool. Clean the tool holder bore and shank with a lint-free cloth before seating to maintain runout within spec. Maximum indicated runout (TIR) for this tool is 0.001 inches; verify runout with a dial test indicator after clamping before beginning a cut.
