The SECO 17011648 is a 2-flute cobalt square end mill designed for material removal in steel, stainless steel, cast iron, and high-temperature alloys. Ground from M42 cobalt high-speed steel, it delivers toughness and heat resistance that standard HSS tooling cannot match. The cutting diameter is 0.5625 inches (9/16 inch) with a 1.125-inch length of cut and a 0.500-inch shank diameter. Overall length is 3.125 inches. The bright uncoated finish is standard for cobalt tools intended for re-sharpening. This end mill is used by machinists and tool-and-die technicians on manual mills and CNC machining centers.
The SP205 series short-length end mill is suited for general milling operations including slotting, side milling, and profiling in ferrous materials. The centercutting geometry allows plunge entry directly into workpiece material, eliminating the need for a pre-drilled pilot hole in many setups. Right-hand cut with right-hand spiral flutes at a 30-degree helix angle supports efficient chip evacuation and stable cutting in steel and stainless steel applications. Primary workpiece materials include steel (P), stainless steel (M), cast iron (K), and high-temperature alloys (S) per ISO material classification.
Installation is performed by machinists using an appropriate collet or end mill holder rated for the 1/2-inch shank diameter. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and locked before seating or removing the tool. Follow your shop's toolholding torque procedure per the holder manufacturer's specification. Inspect the shank and collet bore for chips or damage before each use to maintain runout within the rated TIR maximum of 0.0010 inches.
